Book review of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

“You can’t tell me

what to do anymore, Travis! I don’t belong to you!”

In the second it took him to turn and face me, his

expression had contorted into anger. He stomped toward

me, planting his hands on the bed and leaning into my face.

“WELL I BELONG TO YOU!” The veins in his neck

bulged as he shouted, and I met his glare, refusing to even

flinch. He looked at my lips, panting. “I belong to you.”

I think this was the book that got me hooked forever with contemporary romance. I was almost graduating high school, and I was on a really bad case of reader’s block. I remember going through amazon looking for something to read and going all “oh this looks promising!”.

I got it right is all I’m saying. Travis and Abby’s story is completely addictive. Especially to those girls who want a glimpse of what college life is like. I think I even tried to skip school so I could finish this book faster!

Abby is trying to leave her past behind being a gambler’s daughter and all. College is her fresh new start. That’s why Travis Maddox is completely bad news. College student by day and member of an underground fighting ring by night, is not exactly what she’s looking for. But the heart has a mind of its own, doesn’t it?

They become quite smitten with another and disguise their attraction through bets and challenges. Only to be united even more along the story. The truth is, Abby can’t handle Travis and his 24/7 charm. Travis finally met his match with strong headed and determined Abby. They fall hard for each other.

I’ve read a lot of books in my life, but I don’t think I’ve seen heroes that love so fiercely as Travis does. He just puts his heart out there despite it can be completely broken. Before you ask he sounds super hot when he constantly declares his love for Abby, not cheesy or gay at all!

“You know why I want you? I didn’t know I was lost until you found me. I didn’t know what alone was until the first night I spent without you in my bed. You’re the one thing I’ve got right. You’re what I’ve been waiting for, Pigeon.”

I’ve keep waiting for a movie announcement, since this book has been an amazing hit! If you haven’t read it yet, go get your copy like NOW! It’s THAT good.
