If you’ve been following me for a while now, you’ll know that I absolutely ADORE history! That’s why I love historical fiction so much. At some point in my life, I would love to write a book in this genre, but for that to happen I need to know where to get my research!
E. H. Gombrich
Ernst Gombrich was a very respected art historian. He was born in Vienna in 1909 to a posh jewish family. Eventually they became protestant, but by the time the Nazis arrived in Austria, that meant nothing and they were classified as jews once again. This is why the family fled to London in 1936. Gombrich’s beginning in the UK was hard to say the least. Later, he worked a series of jobs that were challenging but gave him the opportunity to meet the right people and realize what he wanted to do.
This author held a chair on several prestigios British universities and wrote a numerous amount of books regarding art history. If your interested in knowing more about Ernst Gombrich, check out this article by The Guardian:
What I like about A Little History of the World
At some point in my teenage years, I came across this little gem. It’s not a modern book. A Little History of the World is just a compilation of the author’s knowledge of prehistoric times and contemporary history. But you don’t get a textbook kind of vibe. You realize this is some kind of journal where the author plastered everything he knew about world history!
Therefore, I use this book to make consults from time to time! It is beautifully illustrated and that makes it easier to read and more exciting.
If you’re looking for a simple history read that’ll blow your mind, please give this a chance!
