Book Review: Step Brother Dearest – Penelope Ward

Book Review of Step Brother Dearest by Penelope Ward.

You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. But things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Then, just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

“I know I’m not supposed to care. But when it comes to you, what I’m supposed to be feeling has never seemed to matter.”

This is the kind of book you don’t want to put down…ever!

Elec and Greta’s story started on the wrong foot. First of all, they were supposed to treat each other as siblings. That didn’t work out very well, since they were immensely attracted to one another. Second of all, He used to treat Greta as garbage, only confusing the reader when he was the first person to come to her aid when needed.

Sometimes, you can’t help who you’re attracted to and you act upon impulse. Elec and Greta got to a point where they couldn’t resist one another. However, just when they decided to cross that invisible line, it only took one phone call for him to vanish for seven years!

It’s only when tragedy strikes their family, that they’re reunited. Where there was a wild teenage boy, there was a rugged sexy man. This only made him even more attractive. They realized that no time away, would dim the fire between them. The only mishap (besides the obvious one) was that he was in a relationship and regardless of his ruthless attitude he was a pretty decent guy. The idea of breaking his girlfriend’s heart was killing him.

But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Greta wasn’t happy either with the consequences their relationship would bring, but they wasted so much time apart. Eventually they get together and live happily ever after, as cheesy as it may sound!
