Step right up and meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.
When Jay Fields, world-renowned illusionist, walks into her dad’s law firm Matilda is struck speechless. Not only is he one of the most attractive and charismatic men she’s ever met, he’s also a mystery to be solved.
Jay wants to sue a newspaper for defamation, but all is not what it seems. Matilda is determined to discover the true story behind Jay, however, when he becomes an unexpected roommate, she is not ready for how he will wheedle his way into her affections and steal her heart.
The man is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, and though she can’t yet see the bigger picture, Matilda can’t resist following along for the thrilling and heart-stopping ride.
This was the first book I ever read by L.H. Cosway!
At the beginning of the story we’re struck with a tragedy. A fire has been set in a family home and apparently there’s only one survival. Unfortunately, the fire also spread to the adjacent house harming people inside.
Years later, we’re back in Ireland. All of a sudden, the celebrate illusionist, Jay Fields enters the life of Matilda and her father. Apparently he needs a lawyer to sort some stuff out, but curious Matilda knows that’s not what this is about.
I’ll never forget Matilda’s sweetness. She’s so caring to her father who’s also her boss. I love how innocent she is with men. Therefore, when she first meets Jay, it’s awkward as hell.
Jay on the other hand, has enough charm for the both of them. They instantly become fast friends with a lot of sexual tension between them. Their interactions were funny so funny, I almost peed my pants!
There is also a lot of mystery in this novel. The reader, as well as Matilda, knows that there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t add up regarding Jay.
My favorite scene is when Matilda goes all Sherlock Holmes and decides to follow Jay. Only to be shocked when he surprises her whilst “hiding”. Like, who do you think you’re fooling? Not the well known illusionist that’s for sure.
“Note to self: Never try to out-trick a trickster.”
Eventually you notice that Matilda and Jay have a lot more in common, than they might think. Including their pasts.
If you want a feel good romance where you can be caught up within the first few lines, Six of Hearts is the book for you! I personally had a blast reading this a few years ago. I would definitely read it again in a heartbeat!
